She was born in Belo Horizonte, where she began her musical studies.
Yasmin Alves is a cavaquinista, composer, arranger and Bachelor of Brazilian Popular Music (UNIRIO).
She works as an educator. She teaches guitar at Projeto Música Encantada and she has taught her own Cavaquinho Workshop for four years, which currently happens at the Trade Union of Commerce. She has participated in other musical education projects, such as the Portable School of Music at the Arena Dicró-RJ.
She has performed as a musician in many places in Rio de Janeiro, such as Trapiche Gamboa, Carioca da Gema, Rio Scenarium and she has been on stage with Brazilian composers such as: Sandra de Sá, Elza Soares, Tia Surica, Luciana Rabello and Nei Lopes.
She is a member of the Choro Mironga and Grupo Saravá.
In 2017 she recorded Rio or Oceno (Yasmin Alves and Raul DiCaprio), played by Makley Mattos and she took part in the recording of EP ÉPreta, playing cavaquinho and bandola under the direction of Maurício Massunaga.
She was selected as one of the composers of the Sonora Festival - International Cycle of Composers that takes place during the month of September in Rio de Janeiro.
